On Saturday, July 7th, 2012 at 2:41PM, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Company 1, 2, Heavy Rescue 8730, Squad 8759, and the Ambulance Unit were dispatched to 80 Walnut Lane in the Flower Hill section of Manhasset for a person trapped inside a cesspool.
EMS Fly Car 8799 was the first unit to respond to the alarm with EMS Lt. Genser on-board. The dispatcher advised of a call through FireCom reporting that a male had fallen into a cesspool and that NCPD units were on-scene confirming one male trapped inside with injuries. Upon hearing this, Lt. Genser requested that the joint Manhasset-Lakeville/Port Washington F.D. Tactical Rescue Team (TRT) be notified to respond.
Numerous Manhasset-Lakeville and Port Washington units arrived on the scene and along with NCPD ESU setup a high-point using Tower Ladder 8724. Two ESU Officers, Lt. Genser, and a NCPD Medic entered the cesspool to package and assess the patient, who had internal and external injuries from the fall into the newly-installed 30’ deep cesspool. The removal process took forty-five minutes from the time of dispatch.
All units were released from the scene by Deputy Chief Pisani (8702) within one hour.
