On Friday, June 22nd, 2012 another round of stormy weather, including heavy rains and thunder storms, made its way to the North Shore of Long Island. The bad weather created another busy afternoon for the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department and had all five fire companies out responding to several separate incidents spread throughout the entire district.
At 1458 hours Companies 2 and 3 were directed to in the rear of 27 West Mill Drive for a reported vehicle fire. Engine 8735 was the first unit to arrive on the scene and confirmed a working car fire at the location that involved a downed primary electrical wire. Due to the weather, LIPA was experiencing severe delays in their response and units could do nothing more than stretch a precautionary hose line to protect the exposures while awaiting the arrival of LIPA to remove power from the primary wire igniting the vehicle. After roughly two and half hours, LIPA arrived and removed power and the burning vehicles were extinguished.
